From the Cantors' Corner
Here we are in early August thinking about Tisha B’Av. It is
necessary to know and recognize our history as Jews realistically, but
we are eternally optimistic. Our thoughts move forward to the Holidays
soon to be upon us. A friend and colleague of ours taught us that the
fast of Tisha B’Av is a sad one, whereas the fast of Yom
Kippur has a different feel to it as we are anticipating
God’s forgiveness and mercy.
The
music Lynn and I and the adult choir are working on for Rosh Ha Shanah
and Yom Kippur services combines traditional and contemporary melodies.
It is as if, with our prayers, we are embracing our history, yet we are
reaching to the future.
Religious
School will soon begin and, along with the other teachers,
we’ll be given another opportunity to instill Jewish values
in those who will lead and teach our community just a few years from
now.
May
we, in all these endeavors, be given wisdom from above and may our
entire community learn the lessons of the past as we look expectantly
and hopefully ahead.
L’Shanah
Tova,
