Sisterhood

Shalom, everyone! We hope that everyone had a wonderful and healthy summer!

Our Sisterhood Board of Directors is busy planning new and exciting events for the months ahead. We believe that you will find that Sisterhood is looking forward with fresh and interesting events that we all can enjoy. So if you have not yet joined our ranks for the new year, please do so as soon as possible.

The traditional paid-up membership dinner is scheduled for October 16th at 6:00 p.m. in the Dubin Center, and is free of charge to all Sisterhood members. Our guest speaker will be Michelle Burdo, weekend anchor for NBC-2 News. RSVP to Irene Goodman at 454-0608 by October 10th, so that we can plan accordingly.

The Mah Jongg committee is continuing their exciting tournaments throughout the coming year, and the scheduled dates are as follows:
• September 10, 2008
• November 14, 2008
• January 21, 2009
• March 11, 2009
• May 13, 2009
• July 8, 2009

We are continually grateful to our wonderful committee: Sheila Duerden, Carol Glazer, Lee Weintraub, Sheryl Blumberg, and Neida White for their devotion to this project and to our Temple. They greatly assist us in our effort to help support our synagogue.

The Sisterhood Board has planned several events throughout the coming year, but one project is especially exciting. We have scheduled a dinner theatre comedy production in our own Dubin Center for March 28th. We have a script for a one-act comedy, “French Toast,” which we know will pique your interest immediately. We plan it as a fundraiser, but it will be a wonderful evening out to enjoy a delicious dinner and a comedy show, starring talent from our own community. We are currently recruiting “actors” and stage hands, prop workers, and costume designers to help. You don’t need any special experience or talents—just interest in having fun!! Please contact Sharon Cohn (VP of Programming) at 948-8345 or Beverly Banks (VP of Fundraising) at 225-1221, to volunteer to help with a really fun project. We plan to open the event to all Jewish and non-Jewish members of our community who want to enjoy a fun evening, and if successful, we will make the event an annual affair.

On November 18th, Sisterhood has scheduled a luncheon with a Harvest/Thanksgiving theme, and we will present a speaker on the subject of good nutrition, which is a concern for all age groups. We all can benefit from smart tips on how to tailor our diets to assist with our particular health needs.

We also have a Pre-Chanukah celebration scheduled for December 18th, which will include holiday music by the Goldovitzes, and spiritual reflections by our beloved Rabbi Barras.

Sisterhood and The Men’s Club plan to do a combined evening event in January, featuring appetizers/desserts and wine, and a delightful, entertaining speaker. Details will be announced later.

We do have a few other interesting ideas that are still in the planning stage for this year, and we hope that EVERY lady in our community will join us in supporting Sisterhood’s goal of providing religious, social, cultural, and educational activities that benefit our entire community.

Shalom. — Carlyn Harrison & Nancy
Zaretzky, Co-Presidents
