SISTERHOOD NEWS
The final Sisterhood event of the year was held on May 29th, with a luncheon catered by Il Pomodoro. We held a new event for Sisterhood which was really a hit: THE ANTIQUE ROAD SHOW, with Mr. Richard Gannon. Mr. Gannon is an appraiser who is well-known in this area, and those who attended brought items of interest such as antiques and jewelry to be appraised. We had a wonderful turn-out, and it was great fun for everyone. It truly was a wonderful way to end our year's activities.
Then on June 1st, our Sisterhood celebrated the end of another successful year during Services to honor the women of Temple Beth El. During Services we also made a $5,000.00 donation to the Temple to help defray some of the costs relating to the running of our Temple. That makes a total of $15,000.00 that Sisterhood has donated since October 1st. We are very proud of the work we do on behalf of our community, and we are hopeful that more and more of the ladies of our community will join us and support our work when we renew our memberships in the fall. Every member is important and the more members we have, the more we can help our community financially. So please respond when you receive our invitation to join Sisterhood in the fall.
Many thanks once again to our wonderful Mah Jongg committee who plan and coordinate the games each month, and the wonderful ladies who freely donate their time and energy to help in the kitchen. Without each of them, we couldn't accomplish this very important work.
Have a wonderful summer!
Shalom,
Nancy Zaretzky, President

SISTERHOOD TRIP TO THE HOLOCAUST MUSEUM OF SOUTHWEST FLORIDA
By Jill Schreidell
On February 17, The Sisterhood of Temple Beth El sponsored a trip to the Holocaust Museum of Southwest Florida located in Naples, Florida. The tour Docent, Elliott Katz, a virtual walking encyclopedia of World War II and the Holocaust, stressed the theme of complicity during the tour. The museum issued this statement:
“The Holocaust could not have happened without the complicity, overt or unintentional, of average citizens, politicians, clergy and business people. Every time someone made a choice to go along with the Nazis, no matter what the reason, he or she assisted in carrying out the fate of Jews, Gypsies, the handicapped and many others. Making the choice to be a bystander had almost the same impact as actively following the Nazi regime. Had more people stood up and refused to comply with Hitler’s vision, the outcome would have been vastly different.”
Even members of the Temple Beth El tour group who thought themselves knowledgeable about the Holocaust were stunned by some of the facts revealed during the tour. The museum houses over 1,000 World War II and Holocaust artifacts and original photographs displayed chronologically from the rise of Nazism to Allied Liberation and the Nuremberg Trials. Both Docent-led and self-guided tours are available to visitors at the Museum. The Sisterhood of Temple Beth El encourages all congregants to visit The Holocaust Museum of Southwest Florida.
