The Mitzvah Committee works to put several core Jewish values into action:  Tikkun Olam, repairing the world, Gemilut Chassadim, acts of loving kindness, and Derekh Eretz, the code of behavior that binds us together as people and as Jews.

We focus on performing mitzvot in three areas:

  • Addressing needs of our Temple community
  • Being a positive Jewish voice in Southwest Florida
  • Strengthening our bond with Israel

Recent examples include expanding our Caring Visits program for TBE, partnering with Cycle Forward to include women’s health supplies in our Food Drive for Southwest Florida, and connecting with Special in Uniform, an innovative program that integrates youth with disabilities into the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), preparing them for careers following army service

Mitzvah Committee Meetings_____________
Second Tuesday of the month 2:00 pm

We warmly welcome new members. For more information, please contact Hilary and Jerry Kobrin; 651-491-9313

The Cemetery Committee
One of the many privileges of being a member in good standing at Temple Beth El is a free grave site in our very own cemetery, Temple Beth El Garden of Memories. There is a one-time beautification fee required. It is the only Temple owned cemetery in Lee County and is located within the City of Fort Myers Cemetery at 3200 Michigan Avenue, Fort Myers, Florida.

The Cemetery Committee is responsible for all aspects of the cemetery. Some of these are:

  • Maintenance and beautification of the grounds
  • Reserving burial spaces
  • Inscriptions on the Memorial Wall
  • All financial transactions

Inscriptions are available on our inscription wall, a wonderful way to memorialize your loved ones buried elsewhere. Please see below for the form, or contact Karen Liberles at (239) 466-6135 for more information.

Click here for Memorial Wall order form or download here.

The Committee hosts three events at the cemetery each year: Mitzvah Day, a Memorial Day service with the Jewish War Veterans Chapter 400 and the High Holy Days Memorial Service.
